In a historic and solemn intersection of faith and advocacy, the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, in partnership with the Madras Service of Communion (MSC – CHARIS India), observed the National Day of Remembrance for the Unborn on November 2, 2025.
Coinciding with the universal commemoration of All Souls’ Day, this observance served as the spiritual “launchpad” for the journey toward India’s 5th March for Life, scheduled to take place in Chennai on August 8th and 9th, 2026.

A Unified Spiritual Vision
The Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, Most Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy, unified the entire Archdiocese by fostering spiritual initiatives that integrated the pro-life mission into the heart of the All Souls’ Day liturgies. By remembering the unborn alongside all departed souls, the Archdiocese emphasized that every life—born or unborn—is eternally held in God’s memory.
The Archbishop presided over the principal Holy Mass at Quibble Island, which was live-telecast to thousands. Across 130 parishes, tens of thousands of faithful participated in local services led by their Parish Priests.
Highlighting the Observance: Four Pillars of Witness
- The Holy Mass of Reparation Every parish offered special intentions for unborn children and acts of reparation for the sin of abortion, acknowledging the profound loss of life within our communities.
- The Prophetic Homily Preachers highlighted the staggering statistic that 1.56 crore children are aborted annually in India. The homilies shared the Church’s unwavering teaching against abortion while inviting the faithful toward paths of repentance, healing, and a renewed defense of life.
- The Toll of the Funeral Bell In a moving display of grief and intercession, funeral bells tolled in several parishes, followed by a Solemn Silent Prayer. This moment of deep silence honored the millions of lives lost to abortion.
- Visible Symbols of Remembrance Cemeteries and churches displayed pro-life banners and symbolic white coffin memorials. These served as visible reminders that the “unseen” are not “forgotten.”
Voices from the Movement
“This is the first time this was done on November 2nd to remember the souls of the unborn babies. It is a meaningful gesture and should be continued in the coming years.” — Fr. Paul Kunduparambil, Director, Eva Pro-Life
“While masses are kept for unknown souls on All Souls Day, this year through the National Day of Remembrance of Unborn, we kept masses specifically for unborn souls. It was profoundly meaningful.” — Jude Asokan, Chennai Coordinator for March for Life.

Looking Ahead: March for Life 2026

The Madras Service of Communion (MSC), along with charismatic prayer groups across the diocese, played a pivotal role in this exercise. By distributing banners to all 130 parishes, the MSC ensured that the message of life reached every corner of the city.
This observance was not merely social advocacy; it was a response born from prayer. As parish prayer groups begin their intercessory journey for the March for Life 2026, the Archdiocese invites everyone to stand in solidarity for the sanctity of every human life.
Join the movement. Pray for Life.
